The 110E was made from the mid '60s until around '89 or '90. It's the same basic long action receiver that's around today on the modern 110 and 111, though there have been a few changes throughout the years (AccuTrigger, round top rear, etc). It was Savage's basic hunting rifle with plain wood stock and sporter barrel with sights. All the ones I've had said "110E" on the barrel, while newer rifles simply say "110." They were only made in common hunting calibers since it was essentially an "economy" rifle. They were and still are good rifles, which can often be picked up very cheap due to everyone wanting "newer and better."
There was an original 110 made prior to the intro of the "E" models, but I'm guessing you're referring to the newer 110 rifles made from about '90 and up. The new 110 rifles have had a few changes, the AccuTrigger and the round rear receiver bridge that came with it being the most notable. Unlike the short actions which have gone through several phases, the long actions are very much alike in many ways, with the only real exceptions being the AccuTrigger rifles and the "110 Series J" rifles.
