Interesting but I’m not a hunter so I don’t think I’ll be faced with the same situation. However, I am thinking of filling the butt end of the stock, which includes the grip, with foam to eliminate the hollow feel/sound of the stock.. The foam could also add some strength to this weak spot.

What he said... I was looking into the automotive "pillar" foam that 3M makes.

Funny, no one here or in the other thread mentioned the most obvious thing...you don't cross a fence with your rifle slung over your shoulder. Basic hunting safety 101 folks!

no type of foam is going to add any structural strenght, thats just not how foam works. It might make the stock stiffer by filling up space so it allows less movment...

THat said, im not too worried about breaking my stock... Ive seen wood stocks break too, when you do something stupid. ::)

So true. Saw a guy fall into ditch on a night march, landed on his M1 Garand no less and snapped the stock in half. Boy does that make me feel old.

I am glad I convinced my dad to spend the extra money and purchase a Stevens 200 instead of an axis. If the stock does break on that, I can find a replacement.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Don't care what gun you have, if you don't care for handle it properly, you run the risk of breaking it.

If an Axis/Edge stock breaks it has been abused.Never had any problems with any of my guns breaking stocks.Kinda looks like he trying to start a bashing post.

Knew a guy that fell out of a tree stand and landed on top of his rifle, a Weatherby Vanguard. He knocked the
wind out of himself and broke the stock at the wrist.

I just saw an ad on gunbroker for a Weatherby MarkV with the same "weakness". It's a shame, but I think it's the weakest part of any rifle.
