It would be a great round for subsonic suppressed.
I'm looking to start my first rifle build but I haven't decided on what caliber to go with yet. I like the idea of 460 s&w in a rifle, would this be possible? ??? If it is any information would be helpful.

What is the head diameter of the 460? The Savage magnum bolt head is .532" (IIRC).
Vietnam Vet, Jun 66 - Dec 67
The head diameter is .520

The 10/110 series doesn't play nice with rimmed cartridges.
Ok thanks for the info. The only other option would be to get it a T/C >

You COULD put a 450 Marlin barrel on it and load it down to 460 levels. I think it might actually be cheaper to shoot that way. I have no idea of the price of 460 ammo, but I doubt it's cheap. Unless you already have it in (the 460) a handgun, and want a combo.
The Marlin round has the .532 case head, same as most common magnums. Feeding would most likely not be much of an issue either. The 460 is rated for 2200fps with the 200gr bullet, and you could easily match that speed with a 300gr from the 450 Marlin. Trajectory would be slightly different though.
Just a thought.
Also, if ya wanted to wildcat, the 300 Savage case would be almost the exact same capacity (necked up for the .452 bullet, of course) as the 460, that way you'd have a slightly shouldered case to headspace with and the .473 rim dia in a rimless case.
Just another thought.
458x2 American (shortened 458 Win Mag case), 450 Marlin (downside is only one source of brass and I think the round will die), or 450 Bushmaster would be workable choices.
I have desired the very same thing, but it is not practical until I found the 50 B and M Alaskan Super Short. I just need the cash to do it in a Striker. It is a 300WSM cut down to 1.640" with a 50 Cal 300gr at 2400fps out of a 16" barrel. Brass would be easy to get and the 50 cal is kind of cool.
