    Mag Conversion

Looking for the bottom metal to change a 10fp .223 centerfeed to a detachable mag.
    Anyone done this, any recommendations?
    Thanks,
    Ed

I know that AI will be offering mags for 223, but I'm not sure they are available yet.

    Thanks for the response.
Do they have the bottom metal for the conversion?

Call Savage. They should be able to hook you up.

Or you can call SSS. But if I'm not mistaken, they have to deal with Savage directly as well?

Has anyone recently been through this and could eleborate on prices/costs?

That's a good point, might be cheaper in the long run to sell this one and buy a new one with mad and Accu-stock.
    And thanks for the info.

you need to determine wether you got a centerfeed or staggerfeed.

centerfeed is just a parts swap, get a stock inletted for a dbm, buy the metal and mag. a staggerfeed is expensive and quite honestly is easier to just switch to a centerfeed action.

    Re: Mag Conversion

    To my knowledge,
No one makes a extended magazine for a 223.

The AI mags would require a custom made bottom metal, latch set up, as well as stock inletting. You would be looking at over $200 for just the work.

    Sharp Shooters Supply http://www.sharpshootersupply.com/
Offers a extended magazine in 308, but not in 223. They use factory bottom metal, and factory magazine parts, keeping the cost down.

I believe Jeff from CDI will be offering the bottom metal for 223 AI mags. Also, call Kevin Rayhill aka Stockade Stocks. He has a mag system for Savage's as well.

AI mags are pricey, but they are the standard for bolt action mag systems.

The CDI's are available from Midway. For stagger and centerfeed. 5 and 10 round mags.
