    powder choices for 80 gr bullets (223)


    been looking for data for 80 gr heads in 233 anyone using pwder other than varget and rl-15 not needing a load i will work up just wondering what ya'll are using ? have a gunshow next weekend and will have a better powder choice there so thinking about trying another powder.

    Im a varget fan for the heavy bullets.

    AA2520. I use it w/ all tips above 65gr. works great on 77gr.

    I got 4 8 lb jugs of it awhile ago and sold 2 as I had a .308 then (sold that too). You want a slower powder w/ the 80's

    youor like me Gacop i'm limited to 2 places here locally but there is a gun show this wekend and the couple from B'Ham come down that may have some in stock i will need to call them to see .may have to prepay for it but for me new barrel (2just picked up a shilen ss 30" 308 for a f-open gun ) so i want to try something new.

    I stopped going to the local gun shows when it started to cost $10 just to get in the door and most tables had deer jerky and usless trinkets. The tables that did have guns thought they were gold plated and priced them accordingly. A few friends have told me that the shows have gotten a bit better so maybe I'll give em a try and see if Georgia Arms has a table. Good people for brass, primers, powder and bullets.

    I know what you mean for the most part its the same buys selling the same stuff bit I go for the reloading supplies Alabama ammo is they and they have a larger selection

    Think what you like, it works.

    I have used RL15 and Varget as well. All three group the same. My current load is Varget, he said he could not get Varget.

    gunshow was pretty good picked up some 80gr amx and aa2520 to try out as well as some 243 dies for the sons savage now to finish the test loads gonna start out with
    69gr smk over varget,rl-15
    75gr amax over same maybe try some aa2520 then move up to the 80s with same powders

    best part is i also am rebarreling my lrpv to a shilen 308 some tesing loads (186,178,190 gr heads)for it also should be a fun range day in a week or so. thanks for all the comments.
