    Accustock ???

I have a new 116 with the version 2 accustock. Following Savage's instructions to reinstall the stock, I tightened the front action first and then the back both to 30 in/lb(I found the 30 in/lb searching on here). Doing this the rear tang lifts slightly from the stock to the point where you can see under it. The barrel is still free floated though. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Is this normal? Also when I first took the action out the screw were barely tool tight from the factory...

    Thanks,
    Todd

rear tang should be floated, action should be resting on the pillars not the tang

    Re: Accustock ???

Shot the rifle today after lapping the scope rings and torquing everything down, and torquing the stock. I'm still getting a left shift on the groups. I couldn't let the barrel cool all the way down after sight in due to running out of day light. When I re-installed the stock yesterday I did notice 3 witness marks in the aluminum bedding block on the right side. Anyone think that, that uneven contact with the reciever is throwing my shots over when it heats up?

Yes, could very well be. Also check to see if the barrel is still floated when warm, that could be the culprit too.

Is the rifle broken in yet? If not that needs to be done first, if it is then try the box test and see if the left shift stays consistant.

I've got 24 rounds down the barrel now. Not sure if it's had enough run time yet gonna try again this evening.

Even with the shift your group is Less than MOA. Bodes well for the accuracy. Try not cleaning it till that accuracy drops off. A new barrel usualy coppers up so keep an eye out for that. A shift like that can be due to several reasons. Scope and mounts, loose receiver mounting bolts., barrel heat causing it to touch the stock are a few. Ammo is another. Keep working at it and sooner or later you will figure it out.

Here is my final group today, looks good. Barrel was warm before the shots.

This was the first group, I think I pulled the one to the right, I made a scope adjustment after this group to get my final group.

I'm gonna keep shooting it to ensure it hold the current pattern.

    Thanks for the info!

My factory 308 sporter barrel tends to shoot tighter and with higher velocity after being fouled with about 10 rounds.

My model 16 7mm/08 does the same thing. I cured it with a 12thou change to seating depth so have a look at my new post "7mm/08 range report. ;D
