scope is off do i shim or replace the rings

built a new gun with egw 20moa base with leupold prw bases took it to the range and it was way off @ 100yrds (high and right ) tried swapping one ring 180 degrees and that took care of the left/right for the most part but it is shooting 8" highand i have ran out of adj.. was told i need to shim the scope 10-15 thou. i have never shimmed a scope before i've been reading about shimming the base no the rings but what is better scrap the rings for burris sig or shim if ring how do i shim a pic mount?

no i checked its on right i knew it was going to be hard to get my scope to come down for 100yrd shooting but at 8" i doubt it will be ok even at 300yrds. scope is a bushnell 4200 8x32x40 mm i found some shims in sinlairs book i also had to turn the rear rind around 180 degrees so it i could get my left right to work it was shooting so far right that i was out of adjustment at first.

I know it won't come down enough at 100 but with it shooting that high it will still be to high at 300 .and yes I do plan on shooting part 500 that's the reason I went this route otherwise I would have left the other mounts on it . On my Kelvin I only have to move down 4 moa to shoot 100 yrds

I dont understand your statement. I know you install a 20 moa base for long distance shooting but that does not mean you cannot be zeroed at 100yds. I surelly can zero at 100 yds on my 30-06 110 savage with a var3 leupold and a 20 moa steel base...

All depends on how much internal adjustment the scope has. Most scopes in the low to mid price range will only offer 30 minutes of total windage and elevation.

That scope only has 26moa of total adjustment(if it is the older model with an AO,not a side focus), so the way you have it now might be the only way you can get that scope out past 500 yards.... That is probably why you are so high at 100.

heres the info on that scope

The other issue here is that just turning your rings around 180 degrees should not change anything if they are true.

You need a set of Burris Sig Zee rings with the optional offset inserts, and possibly a scope with more adjustment range.

    .

Another option that many do not consider is...

Instead of adjusting the scope or using shims you might just bend the barrel.
