    Fireforming loads for 250AI

Just checking to see what loads y'all are running to fireform 250AI brass. I just picked up a rifle with a Stevens SA SF with Douglas barrel and Duramaxx stock. Have some brass with it fireformed already but going to fireform more.

It's the 250 savage ackley improved. I am not interested selling, sorry. I just picked it up and working up loads for it so I can use it for deer hunting here in south Louisiana. I am working with 115 gr NBT and BST also going to try some 110 gr Accubonds. I have some 87 gr bullets I am going to use for fireforming.

With a proper AI chamber no need for false shoulders or any of that - an in spec factory round (standard 250 Savage) should have a little sitffness on closing the bolt (that is why the standard "go" becomes a "no go" on an AI round).

I still do jam the bullets - would suggest cheap 100 grainers (just for the length so you can jam them) speer or rem bulk bullets and a stout (but not max) charge of powder that is on the fast end of the scale for the 250 (3031, 4064 or even 4895).

All that being said - the AI version will push the 120 grainers fast enough to open them up and make them into effective bullets but I still think that a 100 grain bullet shines in deer sized game in the 250 AI.

Yes, that is exactly the way I treat my 257AI loads. If your chamber was cut properly, into a TRUE AI chamber, you don't have to diddle around with false shoulders. The whole concept behind the Ackley Improved chambers was to be able to safely fire factory ammo to both form brass, and to hunt with if needed (lost ammo, etc).

I would also use 100 gr bullets. To me that is what that case size asks for.

The Berger 115 is an excellent choice for the 250. I shoot them out of my standard 250 with great success and the extra b.c. helps at long range. I can get them to 2800 out of my 250 and my brother can get 3100 out of his ackley version.

Stomp- I have a Mod. 14 in standard 250 Sav. Do you mind sharing what your load is that is safe in your rifle? I get right at 3000fps w/ a 100gr. SGK, H4895 and it works great on Deer. I would like to shoot the longer better BC Berger 115's but would have thought they would take up too much of the powder capacity. I have a std. SAMMI chamber from Savage and load to an OAL of 2.80"

I'm using 32.2gr of imr4064 in lake city match brass that I am getting 2800fps out of with the 115 Berger. Mine is a model 110 with a 24" Adams and Bennett barrel.

Ah - Lapua 22-250 match is the way I go. Much easier forming and better brass by far (my opinion of course).

    Re: Fireforming loads for 250AI

I really like the lake city match brass. I found that I am able to get a little more velocity while using a bit less powder with them. Making cases is a bit time consuming but I like to do it.
