    Stevens .223 accuracy?

I am awaiting delivery of a slightly used model 200 in .223. What kind of accuracy do these rifles generally have in their factory form. I bought for a project gun( first build), but may hunt with it for a season. It will be a varmint, pig, and deer hunter as well as target/ steel out to 600 yds.

    Re: Stevens .223 accuracy?

I recently purchased a Stevens 223 rem with intentions of a build
The rifle shoots very well with 55gr Sierra Gameking and Hornady 55 gr Vmax bullets, Varget powder
    1/2" to 5/8" at 100yds
Have not shot it any further distance at this point, but I have decided to leave the rifle as is for a light, inexpensive gun

This is the second Stevens I have purchased, the first was a 7mm08 , it was hard to remove the barrel and replace with a Shilen because it shot so well but it was my first build and I am glad I did
Good luck with you new rifle

Great gun. Mine is capable of great accuracy as long as the nut behind the but doesn't screw it up. It will consistently keep em on p-dog sized targets out to 500 yards.

I have one with a trigger installed (aftermarket) that my son in law and i shot the last 4 reloads we had alternating between shots...at 100 yds, it is a 1 hole group!!!! I am literally in awe at what these guns shoot...my son in law has a factory STOCK Stevens in 7/08 that is a one holer at 100...with factory win. silvertips (i think)...but factory ammo either way, and not even premium stuff!!! rsbhunter

I have two of the Stevens 200's in .223 remington. One of them is the older stagger feed rifle and the other one is one of the newer center feed rifles. They both shoot very good, but hands down the center feed rifle is much more accurate. The barrel on the CF is (I think) 2 inches shorter. I don't know if the barrel length has to do with the better accuracy or not.

I have shot mostly 50 and 55 grain ammo through mine. Both Black Hills (55 gr) and Fiocchi (50 gr polymer tip) with no appreciable difference in grouping, only poi changed.

I own 6 or 7 center feed rifles in 223 remington, and I guess if I had to pick one as the only one I could keep it would be the Stevens 200 CF rifle.

.223 can be a deer round if you watch your distance and put the "right" bullet in the right spot! My daughter shot her first deer with a savage .223. 60 grain Nosler partitions, perfect shot, complete pass through terminal performance. It did the job.

(yes, I was backing her up with my 8x57, but she didn't need the help)
