    Varmint Nighmare Extreme Bullets

I just ordered some of the 55 grain HP's from Midsouth. Anyone using these, are they accurate?

I haven't used the 55gr. but I have used a lot of the 50s and they have been really accurate in 2 of my guns in 22-250. My Rem with a 1-14 barrel seems to like the 50 a little better than the 1-12 of my Savage 12FV.

We used the 55 gr Varmint Nightmare and the 50 gr Varmint Nightmare Extreme in several 223 Rems with very good results this year. Next year we will stick with the 50 gr VNX for PD's. I just started using the 34 GR VNX in my 221 Fireballs and so far I really like them. Not quite the splat factor of a V-Max or a Ballistic Tip but close and a lot cheaper.
BTW, we have had excellent results using TAC powder with these bullets in the 223's.

Thanks for the info. I'll be trying them in my 1 in 9 twist.

In a 223 AI with 1:9 twist, they will shoot under 10" group at 800 yards.

    Love these for prairie dogs.

Let's hope my standard chamber will shoot em that good. Initially, I'm going to try them and some Berger 55 gr HP's with Varget. Still waiting for Berger 70 gr VLD's I ordered.

Shot a couple of loads this weekend using Varget. Ended up with two promising groups in the .500" range.

Shot some test loads with Berger 70 gr VLD's and 55 gr varmint HP's seated .006" off the lands using Varget. Accuracy absolutely sucked?! Should I seat these into the lands or try em at about .015" OTL?

The Varmint HP's never really grouped well for me.

The VLD's - start at 20 or 30 off the lands. The old "seat Berger bullets into the lands" has gone by the wayside. Call Eric or read their website.

After posting, I did some searching on the site and came up with a few posts about the Bergers. I'll try em at .020". My Lapua 223 brass came in so I'll be using it instead of once fired RP.

Bought some 50 grain VNX a year ago, have yet to find a load that shoots them under 1" in two different 223 rifles, both Savages. Need to try them in the Hornet to see if they will be usable there, otherwise they are, so far, useless.

They are going to be too long to work in most magazine fed Hornets. If you give up on them, I have a home for them.

And that's a very god question. I have heard that they are Hornady, Nosler and a couple others. Midsouth is not telling.

    Re: Varmint Nighmare Extreme Bullets

The hollow point is a bit bigger than the one in a 53 gr. Match King.

They look like Winchester. And all of the ones I got had scratches on them from being pulled. I have some 55 gr. Winchester from years ago and they look very similar. Can't get them to shoot worth a darn either. ::)
