New Scope Mounts and a Base

Ok So I need a new mounting solution for my build

    The Scope is a Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x50 LR/T.
The action is an M10 round rear receiver. The barrel contour will be a factory heavy varmint.
The Budget = $200 for both the rings and the base

What would be a good combo?

I really want all badger ordnance but thats not going to happen. :-\

Should I just do both Ken farrel? Is there a better bang for your buck than that?

    Burris xtr bases and rings.
Just remember that the xtr rings are sized differently so look up the sizes on the burris web site. Low actually a medium, medium is high and so forth, best to look up.
you can find them at opticsplanet or swfa.

I have a Ken Farrell base and TPS rings. It makes for a good solid mounting system.

EGW bases with Burris rings (XTR or Z) seem to be a pretty popular combo and would leave you with about half your budget to spend on another build

haha yeah this build isn't going to be done until january so Im not too worried about saving money. I want to do this right.
So I am 90% decided on a Ken farrell base 0 taper.
As for the rings does anyone have experience with the ken farrel rings. I looked around and to me and of the top rated rings are around $130 buck for a good set of tactical rings.

Do the inserts work well on the burris rings? IE: for offsets and such.

I just installed EGW 1 piece base and A set of Burris Sig. Zee 30mm rings on my 12FV for less than $100 and I like them a lot. The fit and machine work is great.

The Burris Signature Zee rings work fairly well, but if you think you are going to need more adjustment I would get it built into the Farrell base, I'm running one of his 20 MOA bases.

When I was still on my departments sniper team we had a Farrell base and Farrell rings on the rifle that was assigned to me. They are good solid rings as well.

Not sure about the Mark 4, but I would think so. I have a Nikon Monarch on mine, I am sighted in at 100, but it is down all the way, I can only go up.

Consider a SWIFT SPR. Some scoff at the mention of Swift but they shouldn't. I have three 6 x 18 x 44s and they are far superior to Leupold Riflemans and equal to or better than Leupold's mid range scopes. If you do some shopping you can find one for about 200. Read some of the reviews on google and you'll be impressed

Re: New Scope Mounts and a Base

Alright guys tell me if I did my math right.

I believe the calculation is (Base + Ring height)-(Bell Diameter*0.5) correct?

Assuming that is correct. I want a Farrell Base and TPS TSR "W" rings. The Low rings are .925 base to center and the Super Lows are .925. The Non tapered farrell base is .450 (assuming our list of bases is correct... anybody want to measure to doulbe check?)
The specs at Leupold.com say the Mark 4 6.5-20X50 has an outer diameter of 58mm or 2.28"

The calculation for SUPER LOW rings
    (.450 + .820) - (2.28*0.5) = .13"

    The calculation for LOW rings
    (.450 + .925) - (2.28*0.5) = .235"

So while the super low rings would THEORECTICALLY fit should I get those because I want to be as close to the barrel as possible or should I give myself some lee way and get the Low ring so I have almost a 1/4" of space?
