I joined hoping that someone could give me some info about my dad's gun.
It is a Savage Arms Corporation Model 40, 22 SHORT LONG OR
LONG RIFLE, all inscribed on the barrel.
All I can tell you is that his dad gave it to him as a boy in the 1940's and it is bolt action.
As long as I was alive he never fired it but it meant a lot to him. He said it was how he and his dad killed squirrels and rabbits for dinner.
Any info would be greatly appreciated

Sure it's a model 40?
The model 40 was a rifle that only came in calibers 30-30, 300 Savage, 250 Savage and 30-06. Never heard of one coming in 22 before.
Could be a model 23A I'm thinking.
