    6mm wildcats

    The 6 X 45mm is a .223 brass necked up to 6mm. A .222 necked up to 6mm is a 6 X .47mm. OAL is longer although .222 is shorter brass? ( not 6 X 47L)

    Re: 6mm wildcats

The 6x47 IS NOT the .222 Remington necked up.

It is the .222 Remington MAGNUM necked up.

The .222 Rem Mag case length is 1.850" whereas the case length of the .223 is 1.760".

    I just bought a 6x47 today in a LH Kimber 84.

Dies, brass (.222 Rem Mag), and bullets are on the way from Grafs.

A Schultz moment. Would like to know more about each. Brass much more expensive than .223? Have looked for more info on the 47 but keep getting links to the Lapua. Know it was popular as a bench rest caliber.

Brass is more expensive than .223 but not crazy high. $41 for 100 isn't bad.

There are hundreds of published loads out there for the 6x47 available on www.loaddata.com.

I'm expecting to push the 70gr Nosler BT to the mid 3200's and the 80gr Barnes TTSX to 2900+.

I shoot a 6mm-204, kind of an improved version of the 6x47mm. Pretty easy build for most barrel makers even with out a reamer and dies can be bought over the counter.

375Win, I shoot 6-204 also but I made my dies. What kind of dies are you using?

I use a Redding Type S FL bushing die with the throat openned to 6mm and the expander ball, stem and bushing changed out to 6mm. I use the same die for my 22-204 and can use it for the 25-204 but I also have a custom die for that one.

Both of mine are 14 twist. We use them for 100 and 200yd benchrest. 68gr bergers @ 3200fps is our standard load. I have pushed it up to 3400+ with the 68's but the primer pockets dont last long. Accuracy is amazing! Every load I have tried shoots good but H322 shoots great!

Mine is my goto coyote rig for leadfrees. I'm running 55gr NBT's LF over 2230 but it seems to like alot of the lighter loads run fast 58gr V-Max, 62gr VG's. Lead 55's NBT's and BK's are running close to 3700fps. The heaviest I've loaded are the 65gr match bullets(unknown maker got 500 in a Blem sale) they shoot well also over 748.

    Re: 6mm wildcats/pistol barrel

Ordered a pistol left hand action from the custom shop, 4 weeks to go. Need to decide on some barrels and lengths. Can always start with a .223 and get the project together. Neal suggested the 6 X 47, says it will shoot good with pistol barrel length, would guess the same for the 6 X 204 or 6 X 45; don't have to change the bolt head for any of these 6's.

    12-16" barrels?

I was considering 6x47 SM once, but who makes brass for it and where you buy it? Is it possible to neck down 6.5x47 to 6x47, I think 222 rem mag has base .376" and 6x47 has .472".... Maybe I'm thinking of different 6x47

    Re: 6mm wildcats

OK, I found what I was looking for: you are talking about 6x47 Rem and I was looking at 6x47 Lapua, 6x47 Rem is made from 222 Rem Mag, but 6x47 Swiss Match is neck down 6.5x47 Lapua...
this are based on 222 RM

    and 6.5x47 Lapua

might want to look at the 6mm TCU also, it was made for pistol shooting...think of it as a improved 6x45

    Re: 6mm wildcats

TCU is an AI shoulder angle? Read what I could find, why was it a better short barrel caliber, looks like TC made it for 3 years. This is getting interesting, and if .204 brass were used what would it be, the 6mm tomcat?
