Old Style Model 29

This rifle has been in my family for years and as far as my father and uncle can say, it didn't even shoot when they were kids. So it pretty much sat in a gun cabinet for years. Today though i decided to take it apart and see whats going on. I found the firing pin was in two pieces, easy fix, but the action looked like it was missing something.

First off here is the Rifle.

You may already get the idea but just for additional visuals here is the fron of the action as well.



Anyone that can give me the name of this small metal piece that i'm missing would be very helpful.

Also if anyone knows if this rifle is a 29A or 29B that'd be great. I think this picture may be showing the difference between the two, but doesn't label them.

Can't offer you any help as to which model you have....but have a source that may help. I've purchased parts in the past for antique firearms from Numerich's....they have schematics for both the A & B model of the 29....perhaps you can look at them and figure it out. Also....you might be able to purchase the parts you need and get the rifle back in working order.

I appreciate the reply Senderofan, that is exactly what I needed to see. According to that its the extractor and pin i'm missing. My other question about it being an A or B is, if you look at the first picture of my rifle it only says Model 29. All the other pictures i've seen of other rifles have the A or B. I found this one that is almost a perfect match other then it says Model 29-A, and that one says its post 1898.

Even if it ends up that the rifle isn't worth much.....it still has value because of your family history. I would definitely keep it and get the parts to fix it. Good luck.....I acquired several springs for my 1961 High Standard pistol from Numrich....as my last antique parts purchase....they have a ton of parts which is very helpful.
