    What action is this?

I have a long action that is not like my other Savages. On the front ring it has a notch cutout to make the ejection port larger and it has 2-piece weaver type bases soldered/glued on the action. The action is not drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Other than that, it is a 110. I am thinking about knocking the bases off and drilling and tapping holes for the standard scope mounts.

I just bought a new 260 Rem Criterion barrel and went to install it and saw the setup. It's been 8 or 9 years since I played with this gun. I bought it used and set it up with Sharp Shooter Supply stuff (barrel/trigger/lug/stock) many years ago and finally decided to change it.

That action is investment cast, the bases are cast right in to the action.

Some of the bases were cast on and some were soldered on {I,ve heard silver soldered but not positive]
Make sure which one's you have before trying to remove.
As you said except for the bases everthing is standard 110.

Thanks guys. Looking closer, I don't believe they are cast into the receiver.

I also just noticed that the front and rear bridges are the same height. As much as I hate them, looks like this one is getting Burris Signature rings.

I built a rifle for a customer off an action exactly like that one. Those bases are solid as all get out. I'd leave em.

What's wrong with burris sig rings? Awesome performers for me!

    Re: What action is this?

I may end up going that route. I really want a +20 MOA base on this gun. I can go with the Burris Sig rings with the +.020" offset inserts but I don't have good success with the plastic inserts. I have had them slip on my 308 Encore handgun and it cost me a pig. I tried them again on a 338-284 XP100 and they did not hold the scope so, I do not trust them. I'd use regular rings but they are not aligned perfectly. The rear is about .015" lower than the front, a -15 MOA base is not floating my boat.
