    Recoil Lug Thickness

Replacing the recoil lug on my 308 build. Anything wrong with the .25" Callahan?

.250" thick shouldn't hurt anything at all. My aftermarket lugs are all NSS and are .244" thick if memory serves. I can't see where the extra .006" of yours would hurt at all.

Good point 82boy. I didn't even think about that.

It has a hole to insert a pin. Anything wrong with that? Or would a SSS lug be better?

    Re: Recoil Lug Thickness

The hole in the Callahan is smaller that the slot in the receiver so it can move "off center" a little while tightening the barrel nut
I installed one and I got it lined up after tightening the nut, checking line up, loosening the nut, adjusting line up and re tightened the nut
Had to do this a few times before the lug was in line
This could cause a little problem with a bedded action if you had to remove the lug in the future and install it again
You would probably have to rebed the lug area

The SSS or NSS lug will stay in place

I used a Callahan on my first one ended up making a tool out of old small screwdriver to hold pin centerd in slot. Now if I can only figure how to install fourth arm to hold it. Was gonna ask you guys about other lugs but now I know thanks in advance !

See what drill size fits the slot in the receiver and drill the lug out then take your dremel with a cut off wheel and cut a piece off the end of the drill for the pin !!!!
