Tap and Die set for savage barrels

Has anyone seen a tap and die set for savage barrels, both small and large shank. I think it would be handy to have a set to be able to cleanup any threads in the action or on the barrel. I guess it would even work to cleanup a barrel nut. Wouldn't get a lot of use but sure would be nice when you get that new barrel that is just a tad bit to tight.

You can get special files for cleaning up threads. They work with any thread of the same pitch, regardless of the diameter.

Admonition:
- Be careful.
If you use the steel locking ring or a normal tap or die (or what is called thread "chaser") to clean up threads, you will likely cut away the metal that is outside the parameters of the normal thread (in other words the bent part of the threads). This tends to weaken the threaded joint. Would it weaken it to the point that it fails? No way of telling.
While the above may work, and work safely, If you really wish to do this job correctly, you should use a special tool called a thread restorer or rethreader
What the restorer will do is, as it is turned along the banged up or bent threads it will push the metal back into place instead of cutting it off. In this way you are left with correct threads that are not weakened as much.

Seems to me that Sharpshooter had posted once about keeping a tap in the shop to clean up actions or barrel nuts. Can't swear to this. The thread size, 1.06"-20tpi, is not very common and may be hard to find.

From reading this forum, the most common issue in this area is having the major diameter of the barrel threads oversized. And, the best cure for that is to run a file or sandpaper across the top. This is completely different from using a tap and die, which would remove material from the pitch diameter.
