Which magazine box for this rifle ? w/ additional photos added 7/18/11)

NOTE: Photos added, showing the bottom of the action, hope this helps.
    Thanks, very much:

    VERY basic question here:

I have a 10FP, and when the scope was mounted the smith "misplaced" the magazine, etc.

Called Savage, and per the serial # they sent me a replacement - but I don't think it's
the correct part, or else I am missing something... as I recall the magazine box was more
    straight up and down.

Could someone take a look at the attached photos, and tell me what I need ?

    Thanks, sincerely.

A picture of the bottom of your action would tell us a lot.

Looks like you have a centerfeed magazine box, with a staggered feed magazine follower.

    What action do you have?

Re: Which magazine box for this rifle ?

Carvera, that's what I was thinking. It looks like his stock is missing the relief cut over the rear pillar for the L-clip of the CF Mag. That led me to think he has a SF action.

Your action is a Stagard feed, the magazine box you have is a centerfeed. You need to buy a stagard feed magazine, and attach it to the receiver.

    Gentlemen -

Thank you for this info, will contact Savage and specify what I need.
Frustrating part is - when I ordered a replacement magazine from Savage (after giving them the serial #)
they sent me the centerfeed magazine, pictured.
Now I will know what to order that will WORK - staggered feed box for .308

Don't count on Savage having the part. Savage fazed out the staggered feed system, in their line of guns a few years ago. It may be that all they have in stock is the center feed magazine boxes. You may have to go through Brownells or Midway to get one, and that is if they have them in stock. Sharp Shooters Supply has them on hand, and Numrics should have them.
