    Can this work?

Today I received a laminated , checkered sporter stock 4.40 centerfeed Savage stock short action, and of course it will not fit my 4.257 staggerfeed short action..... I really like this stock , and it is a hairs breath from dropping in....Is it worth the effort to pay to have it fitted ?

Anything can be made to work.
Longate the front hole back towards the mag.,then set a pillar in place and epoxy in using the screw to center it then let it dry over night. Problem solved.

rjtfroggy ....if you lived next door I'd bring it over ;D It looks to be a Boyd's stock( came from Numrich as a 12 BSS ) It has the heavy action screw bushings in there which I like, if they did'nt have to be drilled out. I don't have a good way to clamp this or drill it in any precision way. Im wondering more how much a smith would charge.

If it came from Numrich it is probably a factory stock. They used to have the 4.27" spaced in stock but you need to call and ask. If they do just return for an exchange.
