First let me thank the lovely lady in Savage Customer Support. She gave me the solution even though I fought it tooth and nail.
The Problem was simple. My Edge in 7mm-08 was shooting sub 1" groups at 100 yard with Horn. 120 gr. HP's and Sierra 100 gr.
HP Varmiters. But when I tried Horn. 139 gr. HPBT's the best group I could get was about 4" at 100 yards. That was with trying IMR
4350, IMR 4064, and Varget. I tried CCI-200 primers as well as Win. WLR's. Nothing was working. The angel in support listened
politely to my ranting and simply said " We use Nosler 140 gr. Ballistic Tips to test with. Maybe that will work for you." Well you
can guess what I was thinking. Two bullets 1 grain difference ? No way. She did say that I could send it in and they would look at it
but my groups with the 120's and 100's made me hesitant to do that.
Well, what can I say Crow taste like Crow. I made three rounds each of mid range loads for Varget, 4350, and 4064 with win. WLR's
and Nosler 140 gr. Ballistic Tip's. Varget didn't cut it. 1.5" grp., 4064 was intriguing with a 1.19" grp, and then the 4350 came in
with a .66 grp.
No one could have convinced me that going from hollow point to ballistic tip and 139 gr. to 140 gr. could have made that much of a
difference but it did. From 4" groups to .66" groups.
Thank you again young lady whom ever you are. ;D
P.S. Forgot to mention I took a hog at 331 yrd with this gun and 120 gr. loads I made. All luck but I'll take it.
