    Savage Axis Recoil Pad

Has anyone thought of taking off (breaking off) the tab that keeps the recoil pad on the butt and replacing it with a steel "ell" spring with a tab on the end to go into the hole in the stock? ; It seems to me it would be easy to do with epoxy or small screws on the inside of the recoil pad.

Opinions as to why this is a good or bad idea would be welcome.
    Thanks,
    Thomae

That's a good idea! I've broken two of the poorly designed little critters. Tell us how it works out.
