reloading 30-06 and 300wsm powder problem

told a co worker that i would load him up some rounds for 2 of his guns after deciding on a bullet weight he wants to use one powder for both calibers to keep his cost down (he supplies the components i do the reloading for now hes going to start reloading soon ) here what he has and what i have to spare

i had thought about using my imr 4350 but its not listed for 300wsm and i noticed it burns alittle hotter i looked around some other sites to see if anyone had a pet load using it but no luck .
i looked at the h4350 might load him up some with what i got to see how he likes them and tell him about h4350 not sure if its available locally here havent seen any may have to goto the store and see what they stock (thats the bad thing around here only have one place that sells reloading supplies and the hazmat fee would kill ordering online for only a lb or 2

In QL, I ran the 300WM 3.34 oal W brass, 168 amax with 71.5 gr of IMR 4350 and it returned 3110 at 61k.

This should be close for a 30-06

In QL, I ran the 30-06 3.34 oal 168 amax with 57 gr of IMR 4350 and it returned 2900 at 58.5k.
Hodgdon list 58 max at 58k for the 168 GR. HDY HPBT but at 3.23.
QL returns 62k or overmax for the hodgdon max load.

That said, QL can vary and be off at times one way or the other, so please work up the load.

H4350 and Alliant Reloader 17 have produced the most accurate loads in two 300WSM's I have reloaded for. One big surprise while working up loads for the 300WSM was IMR 4895 with the 168g Nosler Ballistic Tip. Three five shot groups that averaged less than .75".

I haven't had a lot of luck trying to make one powder work in cartridges with very different expansion ratios. You can get cartridges like the 223, 308 Win and the 375 H&H to work with similar powders like IMR4064, 4895, BL-c(2), etc because there powder capacity to bore size ratio is similar but these same powders don't work worth a crap in the in the small magnums (7 Mag, 300, 300WSM, etc).

I use IMR 4350 in 270 WSM, 3006 and 300 WM. Fine accuracy.

However - I just got some new 270 E-Tip non lead bullets, I'm going to switch over to H4350 from now on just because of the claimed temp insensitivity. It's truth for Varget, seems to be true for H4198, so I'm buying into the marketing spiel.

The 4350's are at a good burn rate for big cases, and 3006 qualifies as such.

is quick load worth the 150.00 i looked at it in the demo form and have been thinking about ordering it maybe an early christmas present to myself(t&t bolt and new trigger coming first tho)

If you like to look at a lot of different loads, different or odd bullets, flip flop around powders etc or run wildcats or odd calibers without much data, then I would say yes. It comes in handy for me when like you I cant find a load anywhere for a certain combo.

For more normal stuff, I usually try to find a couple of loads on line like at the hodgdon online manual, reloadersnest, then compare them to QL, and come up with a base load.

It came in handy when I could not find a 44 magnum load with lilgun. Now there are more on line.
Not too long ago I could not find much info on the 375 ruger and the 270 gr barnes so it helped there.
I also shoot a 338/284 and there is zero load info there on line.

That said, when you enter the info into QL you really should verify and double check everything, like gr of H2o, bullet length etc and never jump straight to a full load.

Sometimes its dead on sometimes not, but with older cartridges its usually close and gives you a good idea of starting loads.

Some cartridges like the 308, 7mm-08, 223 are dead on. With some new cartridges like the 458 socom, 50 beowulf, 6.8 spc, 6.5 grendel, 30BR it takes them a while to work out the bugs. They are usually definaed to conservatively and updated later to be more accurate.

If use just the typical powders, IE H4895, H4350, H335, Varget etc, there is enough data online and in load manuals without software.

If you get it, get quick target too. Cant remember if it comes with it or not.
