Savage Target Actions, tell me what I have

Below are pictures of two Savage Target Actions. The top action mounting screw distance seem to be the standard. This action is a RB - L Port action. I also have a RB - R Port action that has the exact mounting screw distance.

The action on the bottom of the picture has a shorter distance between mounting screws. This action is a dual port PTA. I have no clue what it came off of, nor do I have any stocks this action will fit because of the shorter distance between the mount screws! Please note the hole furtherest to the left is NOT threaded! Only the three right holes.

Please let me know what I have. I bought these several months ago just to have. Now I am ready to build my gun, my barrel and stock is in, and I really want to use the dual port. But the stocks I have will only fit the action with the longer screw mounting holes (top picture)!

It's a current dual port target action. I've got a few. They moved the rear hole forward to afford a full pillar instead of the half-ish pillars on the old single port actions. It's Kind of pain. Most people that I discussed stock with already knew about it. Two of mine now reside in Whidden blocks in composite stocks.

Couldn't he send the action to Sharp Shooter Supply to get fitted for a stock?

Send me the one that doesn't fit your stocks and I will take care of it for you. I will even wave the normal $100 disposal fee.

As stated, the dual port actions have a shorter spacing giving a full pillar for the action to sit on. SSS makes stocks for this action, I have one on mine. Call Lisa, she will fix you up just make sure you reference your action as being a dual port.

Yup, There is a difference one has a 4.4 screw spacing (older model) the other has 3.4 screw spacing ( New Model) they did this so they could install the full sized pillar and it wouldn't interfer with the trigger. Both are great action you just have to be sure that you buy a stock with the screw spacing that matches the action. Most of the stocks on the market have the ( older) screw spacing of 4.4 so be careful.

Sorry to say, you will need a new stock. One that is inlet for the 3.4" spacing. I don't see any way around it.

I had no idea Savage made this change! I did talk to Lisa today and getting a stock is no problem, it's the wait!

Thanks for the great info everyone!

is it possible to have the action re-drilled& tapped at the 4.4" spacing?
Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience

I drilled new holes and made a pillar to convert a new HS stock to a 4.4 spaced LRPV rblp. It works very well and hold up a 1.25 Krieger 28" long. (Nutless)My last 5 shot group at 304 yds was .762".
