    Stainless steel trigger guard

Mine looks like a casting... Is it sure 'nuff stainless steel, that might respond well to shaping, polishing, etc?

Not sure about reshaping, but it will definately polish up.

Emery then crocus cloth with lots of oil should get it to shine.

I was just worried about voids in the casting, the quality of the metal, etc..

My goal is to duplicate the level of finish on the barrel and receiver. The crocus cloth with oil sounds like a good idea to me. Polishing it too fine would be a mistake.

If the trigger guard works out well, then I can take a look at the floorplate and maybe do the same thing there.

If it just doesn't work out for me, well there is always the bead-blasting cabinet. - A frosted Savage would be interesting too... I'd be tempted to do the whole thing.
