There are lots of methods for cleaning and maintenance but I'd appreciate opinions on premium tools and supplies and the methods to use them for match grade stainless barrels. I'm a newbie to competition and don't want to screw up my brand new barrel before I even get started or affect my ability to score. Any benchrest or F Class guys out there? Thanks.
Most importantly get a good bore guide and rod. I use a Tipton carbon fiber rod and a Dewey bore guide. I use a nylon brush and/or brass jag with 1" patches with Butch's bore shine. My .308 shoots better dirty for some reason so I clean after 200 rounds or so. I get .5" 5-shots groups but not until the bore is fouled with at least 20 rounds.
Good advice there - get a guide and good rod (I am partial to Dewey nylon coated rods myself). Tipton chrome plated jags will keep you from getting "false" copper indications on your patches.
More good advice from Galveston is not to clean too much - only clean when accuracy falls off! If it is shooting good, leave it alone!

There was a good article in American Rifleman on barrel cleaning. I think it was last month's issue or maybe the one before that, I can't remember for sure. But it sorta hints that a lot of the rituals for cleaning and breaking in a barrel may not make any difference to accuracy or barrel life. Hard to prove either way though.
