Rebarrel Savage 11 Lightweight Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor

I am contemplating rebarreling this rifle. I just can’t it to group very well. I own 5 different 6.5 creedmoors and I thought this would be a nice hunting rifle to carry around.
Has anyone ever rebarreled one of these rifles before?

Yes, rebarreled many savages.. pretty straight forward.. need go/no go set, barrel vice, action wrench.. shilen and criterion both make drop ins that will give you lights out accuracy

Yes, I’ve rebarreled several Savage 11/111 LWH actions. A Savage 22” factory sporter barrel will work nicely. You will need to do some light sanding at the forearm tip to float the barrel in a LWH walnut stock. A Shaw sporter profile barrel will also work.

Some good tips for shooting lightweight rifles which are more persnickety when it comes to how you mount them. The first 1:40 is basically a commercial, but the rest is good info.

You might first try some light torque tuning within the torque specs for your action screws to see if that helps.
I've seen it make a pretty marked difference in how a rifle shoots more than once.

My first LWH was also in 6.5CM. It grouped so-so but I really did not care for the muzzle flip and very light 20" barrel. Found a new 22" take off barrel from a Savage Trophy Hunter and replaced the 20". Really made a positive difference. Better accuracy and less muzzle jump.

That's essentially what I have now for my 7mm-08, although it's a standard model 10 action and an Axis factory 20" sporter barrel, I dropped it in a LWH walnut stock to save weight. Scoped with talley rings and a VX-2 2-7x33, it weighs 6 lbs. 15 oz. I would imagine the LWH action and bolt would drop that to about 6 lbs. 10 oz. or so.

I'm shooting solid MOA with my 7mm-08 and am just fine with that. If I needed better, the first thing I'd do would be epoxy bed the action, which is very inexpensive and easy to do at home. Then I'd see what she did and decide from there.

The 6.5 CM is a great deer round. Don't give up on it. Having said that, if you can find a 20" factory 7mm-08 barrel, I can highly recommend going that route.
