Everyone knows the .22-250 is a great varmint round, how does it stack up accuracy wise against a .243 or 6br out to 600 yards?
How does it do in the wind?
Assuming a decent 26"barrel with the right twist shooting 90grn bullets will it hang with the 6mms?

Might have issues pushing a 90 gr in a standard 22/250 case. An AI'd 22/250 would work rather well though.
Have not shot 90 gr 223 caliber bullets, but, 80 gr AMax's fly rather well to 1000 yards.
I own a 22-250 and 243 . . . Just my 2 cents worth . . . anything over 2 hundred yards, I am pulling the 243 out. From what I hear, the 6br is a hard round to beat, even though is a 243 caliper bullet! Many championships have been won with the 6br!

All I can say is I am very close to converting my 22-250 into a 6x47 Lapua!
As stated above, I have the 22-250 & 243! Out of the two, I would pick my 243 for over 200yd shots! The 243 will shoot heavier bullets. You could build a long range 243, but most are building the 6x47L.
I also have a 223, 270, several 308's and a 6.5x47 Lapua. Now we could probably start the original question all over! :o :o :o
I don't have a 6br, but shoot with several people who do! One of my friends blows a 3" X out of the target at six hundred yards with his 6br!!!!!!!
I haven't seen a 22-250 do the same! But it is a great round!
But in all fairness, I also shoot with a person who shoots a 223 @ 600yds with a 69gr pill. I don't want to be his target at 600!!!!!! I also don't think it would be a good 600yd varmit round.
If mattri is looking for a varmit round, long range, I would have to recommend the VLP 243 Savage, unless he is willing to build! I might even sell him my 243!
Again, the 243 & 6x47 are both 243's! If I convert my 22-250 into a 6x47L, I will not have a need for my VLP 243!
22/250 is my #1 favorite commercially available factory chambered round! I would pick a 22/250 any day of the week over a 243 Win. I have seen some impressive stuff out of the 22/250. I would say it is on par with the 6BR in accuracy
Look at Berger's reference sheet the 90gr bt 22 bullets have the same g7 BC as their 6MM 108 bt match bullets, (.262) and the 90gr VLD has a better BC that any of the 6mm bullets. (.551 g1, .281 g7)

And there is similar results when you look at Sierra's web site with comparison between the 90 and the 107. I don't think the 22 is at a disadvantage. The problem with the 22/250 was brass selection, and now Lapua is making brass, and Nosler that problem is over.
I am a big fan of the 22br, I just think it has an advantage to the 22/250, and it is more efficient. (less powder to do the same work) The 6mm has an advantage in score shooting because it makes a bigger hole, and could get you closer to the x mark. I think the saying is 22's shoot smaller groups, but 6mm shoot tighter aggs.
I think the 22-250 starts to really shine with a fast twist barrel. It's always seemed ridiculous to me that factories are still making rifles with 1-14 and 1-12 twist barrels? I don't get it.
A fast twist barrel with a good bullet and the 22-250 really starts getting some "legs" to it. I definitely think it would hang with a 243 with those 90's, vs the 105's or 107's in the 243.
Of course, no reason not to have both...

Interesting responses. I've posted this question in a couple of different places and there's a pretty even split between those who prefer the .22-250 and thos who prefer the .243/6mm.
Many years ago, I was fortunate enough to p-dog hunt with my Dad's .22-250 prior to making
a choice of my own center fire. Southwest Nebraska's winds helped make that decision. I
went out and got a .25-06. Plastic tips were only a thing of the future back then, but 75gr
Hornady HP's, even with their poor BC, certainly bucked the wind on long shots better than
the .22-250. And yet, overall accuracy of the 250 (during those too few days of calm winds)
was better than the .25-06.
That being said, who knows what a tight twist barreled .22-250 with high BC bullets will do
'til someone tries it!? (Think I would go with the AI version, also.) Savage has made a tighter
twist barrel for the VLP (1:9?) for heavier bullets, but I've never heard how they shoot.
The tighter twist is deffinetely how I would go. The heavier .22 bullets are really popular with the .223 crowd, seems like they would be even better with a little more velocity.
