Savage Rascal help

Not sure this is the right place to ask this but I guess they will move it somewhere if it isn't.

I bought a Savage Rascal for backpacking. Only had it out today but it is a great little rifle and shoots great. The question is since it will be a pack rifle I want it to be as versatile as possible. I want to be able to take the butt plate off so I can put just a few things in there and have access to them. The butt plate on the Rascal is not held in by the normal two screws. Does anyone know if this thing is removable? Also I would like to get a "limbsaver" kinda slip on butt pad. Of course not for the recoil but for fast access to the stock storage.

If anyone has used the Rascal like I plan to any other suggestions are appreciated.
