I bought a .223 Sav Elite a couple of weeks ago.
Need sugestions for factory ammo and /or handloads .
Have tried some factory ammo sofar. 69 grs lapuar scenar sofar best but with 1 inch groups.
shootin at a 100 and 300 meter.

Look up the threads started by CFJunkie. He has the most detailed load work for the .223.
I never tried Lapua or Berger in mine, 69 and 77gn Sierra Match Kings and 75gn Hornady ELD Match.
I do recommend Lapua brass if you can find it.
I have had excellent results with Federal Gold Medal Match that uses the 73 gn Berger. Have been loading the same bullet over 23 gn of Varget which works wonderfully! Both targets are 10 rnds at 100 yds with my Savage 110 in .223.

For a factory load, give ADI ( Australian Defense Industry ) 69 grain SMK a try. My Model 12 LRPV in 7 twist REALLY like them. Shoot them into sub-MOA groups at 500 yards.

I have had pretty good results with 77 gr bullets in my 1:9 twist .223 12 FV even though they aren't supposed to stabilize in a 1:9 twist.
You should have no problem with 77 gr 0r 80 gr bullets in your 1:7 twist rifle.
Performance preferences for bullet and powder combinations seems to depend upon each particular barrel, at least in my experience.
My recent results have identified my best group size results with 73 grain Hornady ELD-Ms (average of 0.243 at 100 yds for groups shot with H4895, N140, N540 and Varget).
Varget averaged 0.216 (the best of all powder-bullet combinations), N540 averaged 0.238, H4895 averaged 0.264, and N140 averaged 0.260.
Berger 73 gr LTB bullets averaged 0.251 with Varget.
Nosler CC 77 gr bullets were the second best overall and best for 77 gr bullets with an average of 0.227 using IMR4166 powder. Good luck finding any IMR4166 since Canadian DOD bought up the entire IMR 4166 product for at least the near future.
Second best 77 gr bullets were SMKs averaging 0.243 with N540.
Berger OTM 77 gr bullets averaged 0.278 with 3 different powders with all three averages between 0.271 to 0.282. Varget averaged 0.271 and N540 was 0.275. N540 averaged 0.282.
Best 69 gr bullets were SMKs averaging 0.233 with Varget. N540 averaged 0.252.
Nosler CC 69 gr bullets averaged 0.258 with Varget.
The powders listed above are essentially the same as I use with my .308s and .22-250s. They are what I use with .223 bullets 60 grs and heavier.
For 45 to 55 gr bullets, I use N133 in my 223 rifles.
This was never moved to Reloading/Ammunition.

i will. try those and either rebuild them or try SMK 69 grs SMK 77 ,bergers 73 grs. Vitavuhori powder of all sorts are easy get here. Sofar all factory loads tested are not better than 1MOA on 100 mtr.
Have unscrewed and retorqued barrel to chassis screws today with 60 inch lbs . But can only try further factory ammo or handloads in a fortnight.
One thing I didn't mention about mine. It took a while to really settle down. 1" groups were pretty standard until I had fired several hundred rounds through it. Then it started grouping smaller as time went on. I also had to learn to shoot better. 1/2" and below takes a lot more effort than hunting loads. Cleaning meant making sure to get the copper out. After 1000 rounds that became less of an issue :)
Have been shooting a Savage in 223 for an informal local league for 3 years now at distances that range from 100-300yds. First year I settled on RMR 69gr BTHP and did well for the first experience. Then changed barrels and the new one did not like that bullet. From there I moved to the 69gr Sierra MatchKings and that was the Barnes 69gr Match Burners that I found that shot a bit better I could not get anywhere. This year I have been using a Hornady 60gr VMAX which has proven to be an excellent inexpensive little bullet.
Now that is all in a 1:9 twist barrel and with your 1:7 I would believe anything in the 75-85gr weight should shoot very well. Matter of fact my next barrel for this 223 will be a 1:7.5 twist.
By the way I was born in Bad Kreuznach! Sadly have never been back.
