Found a Savage 24 .30-30/20 gauge, heavy mainspring

I found a really nice Savage 24 today in .30-30 over 20 gauge. I want it for a gun for my wife because she wants to start hunting deer and likes single shots and this one gun can take care of that and for small game too. The shop owner had to have the mainspring replaced so the hammer is pretty stiff but it's not binding at all. Anyone know a way to break these in a bit more to get them a little smoother. For me it wouldn't be too bad but for someone who doesn't shoot a lot it might be a bit too much.
