NSS normally stocks the more popular chamberings on the shelf, but if demand supersedes supply before his next order comes in they obviously can't ship what they don't have on the shelf. If what you ordered is a non-stocked item they order it from Criterion as a special order and thus it has to be made and shipped to them before they can ship it out to you.
And no, they don't do any machining on the barrels at NSS, they're just a retailer.
As J.BAKER said,i have ordered several from NSS if they have to be made 3-4 months is Normal
16 weeks is how long I had to wait for My first ER Shaw barrel, 12 years ago. Not too unusual.
I must be lucky because the last one I got from them was at my door in a week. Must have been in stock. A couple friends get there actions and barrels from them usually within 6 weeks. Lately my Xcaliber barrels have taken less than a month and I got a sporter style barrel off an eBay barrel maker in 3 weeks.
Criterion makes excellent barrels. They're worth the wait.
