Question about scope mounts for a Savage Cub

Hi, I bought a little Savage Cub a couple years ago for my little boy. At the time, we just used the peep, and then later, I put a single Weaver 24 on the front tapped screw holes, and mounted a cheap TruGlo red dot. I want to remove the red dot, and put an nicer little scope on it. I put another Weaver 24 on the back set of tapped holes, but when I then clamped my rings to the bases, there is not enough clearance for the bolt to function.
Anyone scope one of these little guns? What bases could I use that give me the clearance to operate the bolt?
