Savage 16 in 204 Ruger Fails to eject
Hi guys,
I've had this 204 for a while but never really shot it much. It is a shooting machine. Anyway I never really noticed that it didn't eject all that well mostly since I was shooting on a bench rest. Yesterday I thought I'd try a couple "backup" shots and quickly discovered it would not eject the empty case. Instead it holds onto the case just long enough to get it out of the chamber. It's like it just let's go before the case clears the action.
I asked the guys at AccurateReloading and some think it's a cleaning issue and others say it's an ejector issue. I doubt it's a cleaning issue since I always clean my rifles and it only has around 75 rounds through it.
What do you Savage Pros think?

There have been many responses to this very question before - sometimes other small size cases as well.
One answer is to replace the ball under the extractor with a larger one - you can do a search to find the sizes.
The other that I think will fix your problem is to file another .020 off the "opening" of the ejector pin which lets it keep pressure on the case longer as it is extracted - if you search there are several posts which I think even include pictures - very easy and quick fix.

Thanks Deadeye,
It looks like I'm gonna scrounge up the gear I need to do a little surgery. It looks like I might even get some .140 stainless balls.

Yup, you just need bigger balls.
