Savage 99EG in .300 Savage
I just bought subject rifle. I am initially using Winchester Super X 150 grain cartridges while I get reloading items together. I have experienced several instances, when loading my usual 3 rounds in the gun, that I get a jam on the first round going into chamber and have to reseat the round in the rotary holder...then it loads fine. Has anyone experienced this? Any corrections needed?

I tried several combinations of 1,2 and 3 of the Winchester rounds in the gun. I still got sporadic jamming where the front of the bullet (lead) would hang up on the rather square surface going into the barrel. In each case the lead was deformed by the square surface. I then trimmed down the lead point of the bullets to 2.510, 2.502 and 2.503 OAL. All fed just fine so I guess the issue is that the gun does not like the Winchester (and Lee Reloader Book) of 2.6 minimum OAL. I am going to load up a few Sierra rounds in once-shot Winchester cases (case sized) at both the 2.6 and 2.5 OAL and try that.....
