A friend of mine has a Savage model 99 circa 1902-05. It has a half octagonal half round barrel, straight stock. On the forward face of the receiver it has what looks to be an 'O'. The caliber is marked as 30 cal. on the barrel.
I'm trying to determine what cartridge is indicated by the 30 cal. Would it possibly be 30-30 or .303 Savage or perhaps some other cartridge.
I would appreciate any info, that anyone can supply.
