Cleaning Rod for new barrel
Just got my new CBI on and would love to shoot today but my Dewey Rod is not here yet. I hate the thought of putting the skinny 3 piece junk cleaning rod in the new barrel. Should I do it or just wait for another day when I have the correct rod. Im gonna break it in so it would be alot of passes with a junk rod???

Barrel made out of cotton candy?
Re: Cleaning Rod for new barrel
Haha. No, but knowing my luck I would damage the brand new barrel somehow using the cheap rod.
Re: Cleaning Rod for new barrel
I would worry more about not having a good bore guide then a good cleaning rod.

+1
And I would just clean it once and then shoot the heck out of it...
Re: Cleaning Rod for new barrel
If your worried about a rod, dont put a bullet down the barrel. Bullets are a lot meaner! ::)
Re: Cleaning Rod for new barrel
I would wait, it is highly posible to trash a barrel with a junk rod. If you dont have a bore guide, a Dewey rod isn't going to help you much.
Re: Cleaning Rod for new barrel
I ended up waiting and just shot the AR. I have the bore guide already. Just couldn't bring myself to send the cheap 3 piece rod down the barrel. Dewey Rod should be here in 3 or 4 days.
Re: Cleaning Rod for new barrel
The way i look at it is if you have to ask the question then you have some doubt about doing it. If you have a doubt then if you do run the cheap rod down the barrel and it doesn't shoot like you think it should you will blame yourself and the cheap rod. By waiting you take the doubt away and know you did all you could to do everything right. I am not saying the cheap rod will do any damage just hate when i know i could have messed up something by not waiting. And that folks is why i said "WAIT"

By know I now this answer wont help the OP but for those that DO use the search... A gunsmith I met one time will use wood dowels as rods, that could have been an option.

I remember him, I think his name was Flintstone. Fred, I think.
