Target action...max. cartridge length?
I've been working out exactly what components I need to buy for a target/lrh rifle. I was originally set on doing the stevens 200 action, but I'm really starting take a hard look at the target actions. I don't really need a magazine for what I intend to do and I do like the idea of the more solid action (no hole on the bottom) and the lighter trigger. Anyways, does anyone know long of a cartridge you can use in these actions? I know it's a short action, but I thought I saw somewhere that you can run longer cartridges since you don't have to worry about feeding issues.
Re: Target action...max. cartridge length?
You can run about any cartridge you want thru it since it is a single shot. Only thing is that some may not eject a live round and you may have to pick it out with your fingers(or shoot it). Theres some guys on here that run 338edge,300WM, and I believe Ive seen one with a 300RUM.
Re: Target action...max. cartridge length?
Good to hear. The RUM is a bit more than I need any time soon, I was thinking along the lines of the 264 win mag, but it's nice to know I could if i wanted to.
Re: Target action...max. cartridge length?
Will the larger cartridges such as the 300WM and 300 RUM clear with the bolt in place or do you have to pull the bolt out each time?
Re: Target action...max. cartridge length?
A loaded cartridge, you will have to pull the bolt but it will eject empty or fired brass
