So uh...what if someone were trying to get a barrel off and shattered the whole trigger group off the receiver?

I literally broke the aluminum piece that holds the trigger and safety and etc...
I assume no one sells that whole part and I will have to send it to savage?
You mean THIS Aluminum part I have the red arrow pointing to in the picture? That would be the trigger assembly bracket. Only way I can think is you find one used from someone who has replaced the entire assembly with a Jard perhaps. Otherwise, you’ll need to replace yours with a Jard.

Ok, well... yeah.. your only real option is to order one of the Jard replacement triggers. It comes with its own bracket. And it’s all steel, so much stronger. (Don’t think your “friend” will have a chance destroying it, LOL!)
Ugh. $220 for an axis trigger...maybe I will just call Effie...
Another option would be to send it back to Savage for repair. Just seems to me it would likely end up costing about the same.
I will talk to them Monday and if the price is at all similar I will go with jard.
So... I gotta ask; how on earth did you manage to break that piece? I mean, sure it’s a piece of cast Aluminum so a bit brittle I guess. But I’m still scratching my head on how ya managed it.

And at that cost I'd go to a Jard as well.

Just for fun. However, we have seen some stuff really FUBARed from people changing barrels.
Oh I know it was:p Robin is correct. There have been quite a few mishaps that made this look nothing, from “Backyard Barney” the Savage Smiff! Like the ruined barrel threads from Backyard Barney deciding to GRIND the barrel nut off because it was “stuck”! (Seen more than one of those, LOL) I am all for a DIY approach. I always was! But it is important to understand one’s limits. When I started I was already very mechanically inclined. A person who has never touched a tool probably shouldn’t JUMP right in to any kind of repair right away.
BTW mjbgalt, I’m not including you in this. Please don’t think that. I don’t know you & don’t know your mechanical background. As I said, I am a HUGE fan of people DIY’ing.
Yep, never know what people are skilled at. My father-in-law was a master machinist trained at Brown and Sharpe. His father was a saw specialist at a piano factory. I learned a lot from them, mostly how little I really knew. I was just an engineer :)
I did learn that you can make anything you want with hand tools, skill and patience.
mjbgault, in this case, My vote is go with the Jard. It’s a hunting rifle, right?, get the 20 oz. model.
Probably going to buy the jard and put it on my 6 arc and move that accutrigger to this receiver. And I am not exactly a gunsmith but not completely helpless either :)
Doesn't Savage sell replacements? I don't think their trigger is too bad. Surely if would be far less than $220.

So, how are you planning on getting a Gunsmith to accept a factory part, which YOU paid Savage for and give it to you without making a buck on the transaction? Are you counting on some gunsmith doing it out of the kindness of their heart? I’m thinking any gunsmith will insist you purchase through them(which means price mark up), and the smith doing the install.(labor fee) Good luck.
I notice he said 'gunsmith or dealer'. I'd bet I could get it through my Sportsman's just through their normal transfer fee. I might try that.

Dave, I was referring to Sportsman's Warehouse. In NM all licensed dealers are required to offer their services for firearms and parts transfers. They are a Savage dealer and they offer gunsmithing services.
Just to follow up, my friend with the FFL and gunsmith shop was able to order it for me, and said they were extremely good and helpful while he was on the phone.
