Bolt Lubrication

Even though I contacted Savage several years ago, and was told nothing was needed...I been looking on youtube and online for a video or pictures of where to put grease or oil on a Savage Bolt for maintenance & preventing ware, but can't find anything . . I did find one article online for bolt actions in general stating to lube the "Rear surface of locking lugs" "cocking cam" and "extractor cam" but there was no picture showing exactly where those locations are so I was hoping maybe somebody on here had a picture or video showing how it's done on a 110 since my knowledge is limited. After cleaning I just been wiping the bolt and chamber down with a silicone gun cloth.

You will quickly find out that the wrong lubrication is worse that dry. Hobo oil is well liked in the accuracy shooters circle.

Lot of folks rave about this on Accurate Shooter site so I had to try it and is now the only oil I use on my firearms. Smells good too.

I’ve almost gotten away from using oil except maybe to wipe one down. In my experience oil seems to run off too easily and wind up where it shouldn’t be. So I use grease that’s made for low temperatures in high friction areas (bolt, lugs, cams), and hornady one shot in triggers and other small areas. It goes on wet and dries leaving a nice lubricant film that doesn’t run.

That's what I'm doing mostly as well.

Areas that slide get a thin layer of light synthetic grease and everything else that needs lubing gets oil.

I need to get some Hornady 1-shot - it sounds like a great lube and superior corrosion protection as well based on an extensive test posted here.

Good information! I generally just wipe the bolt down with a very, very lightly oiled cloth.

All I use for everythng is Hornady One Shot Lube and Clean
