Reamer use. How is it done?
I have a 25-06 varmit barrel and was thinking of renting a reamer for 25-06 AI. I have read one article online about this and it said you have cut off about 1/4" from the rear of the barrel. This was to make sure you are cutting a new chamber. But by cutting it off it makes it essential to refinish the rear of the barrel with simple hand tools.
The question is it needed to cut the barrel down?
Can I use the reamer at home successfully?
Re: Reamer use. How is it done?
you can ream it by hand, but you should cut it down to make sure it cleans up correctly, you could send it to me and get it punched out to 25-06ai for $75 plus shipping. Just a thought.

Thanks for the info sinman. I may just wait then get an AI barrel later.
Re: Reamer use. How is it done?
It depends on the cartridge. most rimmed cases (.30-30)have long necks and you just ream deeper. most rimless cases (.308) have to have at least 1/8" removed to get a clean shoulder. If not you end up with a double angle shoulder.
also if doing it buy hand and you push while turning, you have a natural tendency to push in and side ways. You could end up egg shaped out at the end.

Why take a chance to save a few bucks. For $75 Devin (Sinarms) will do a great job for you. He has done 2- 25-06AI's for me and they both are tack drivers.

1+ on haveing sinman do it for ya. If you rent a reamer youll have $45 at least tied up in it, and the chances of getting wrong by hand are a lot greater than the chances of getting it right.
Sinman already has the reamer and knows what he is doing.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will drop the home improvement idea and send it out to sinman when I am ready.
