Second trip to the range with new 6BR. Better results.

Thanks for telling me to ditch the bipod. That made a world of difference. I tested loads from 29.2 to 30.2 in .2 grain increments. I also tested seating depth from .010 jump, a kiss, and a .010 jam, for each charge. Groups were much better with a couple just a fuzz over an inch and the rest varying from .5" to .8".

I think I found a node from 29.8 grains to 30 grains of Varget, jammed .010". Both groups were under .25". These were only three shot groups, so my next test will include a larger sampling. So, may plan now is to test loads at 29.8, 29.9, and 30, and play with the amount of jam. I'm going to try .010 and .015 jam. If I can get some five shot groups hovering around .25" with these 107smk's, I will be thrilled. Thanks for all the help!

You have a lot of 2 together and 1 out. I believe you would really benefit from a good bedding job. These groups do look alot better than the previous though. Good luck with the fine tuning.

I didn't really notice that until you pointed it out. I removed the stock to look at the aluminum bedding block. It seems the rear of the action is seating pretty well based on markings, but the front action screw area is a little suspect. There seems to be a bit of a high spot on the action, or bedding block because there is a small 1/8" shiny spot up on the side of the bedding block. Plus, the NSS recoil lug seems to be a bit longer than factory and it sits a little below the tiny shelf cut in the botton of the recoil lug bedding area. It does seem that with more round the aluminum block will kind of wear in to the action, based on what is happening with only 95 rounds down the tube.

I will have to read up on bedding the B&C stock to see if that is something I want to tackle. Seems like a skim bed with JB weld might be easy enough. What bedding compound would work good for a skim bed on the aluminum block?

Devcon Steel Putty seems to be the choice of most these days. JB Weld will work, but again the Devcon seems to be the preferred choice by most.

I`d bed it with Devcon, work the brass & weight sort them, then work on setting depth with 29.6 - 29.8. I bet .25" / 5 shot groups will not be a problem at all on a regular bases. Looks like you have a shooter in the making. Good luck!

Be sure yo use "lots" of release agent if you try rebedding. I tried Kiwi "neutral" shoe polish and it works great!

And only make "one change" at a time on your ammo work or you'll end up chasing your tail. (been there, done that). ::)

I just tested some 107s yesterday jammed .015" pushed by Varget. My groups were .459" and .466". I tried jamming 95gr SMKs .010" but they didn't respond as well grouping into .948".
