Model 29 Worth $$

I have a chance to buy a Savage model 29 no A or B just 29. It appears to be in good condition. It did have someone mount a scope on it at one time. There are 2 rails one on each side of the rear sight about a inch and a half long apiece. They are just pieces of metal that you can clamp a scope mount to, each has 2 screws in it, were it is screwed into the barrel. They appear to have been done by someone who knew what they were doing. The barrel is octagon. Does anyone have any idea about a fair price for this gun. The owner is asking for $400 but I don't think it is worth that much.
