I have a question I have a target action in a caliber I really don't like and was wondering if I can use the action and build a rear loading single shot 338 Lapua thanks in advance

The general opinion is that that's a bad idea. Has to do with lug thickness and heat treatment the actions get.
The standard 10/110 action does not have the strength to handle the pressures of a 338LM diameter cartridge.
The target action is not any stronger, either.
But it will handle the. 338 which is cheaper to load for and faster than the Lapua
That would be the 338 Edge that Jamie is talking about.
Yep love the smart phone until it starts thinking it is smarter than I am.
I have a 116 large shank in 300 ultra mag and a 30" McGowen 338 Edge barrel, the large shank is a better for a 338 Edge?
I wouldn't say its better, the only thing gained is a little more beef in the chamber area of the barrel. The metal thickness of the receiver is lessened on a large shank. Total thickness of barrel and receiver at the chamber is the same. You get to decide if the trade off in thicknesses are worthwhile. UltraMags have been built on both large and small shank actions. Use what Ya got.
