I have a new .260 barrel on the way in a couple weeks. Wondering what loads you guys have come up with. I know h4350 seems to be a favorite and also hard to find. I have Varget and i4350 on hand and local shop has RL 17(any luck with this?).

I'll take RL17 over they other 2 powders mentioned, you might want to specify what bullets you intend on using,
if you want some load data.

I plan to shoot 123-140grn (a max, scenars, smk's). The barrel is a 27" 1:8" twist bull and will be mainly a paper puncher w/occasional groundhog.
Picked up a pound of RL 17 today. I am not looking for a liability case here , I know to work up for my rifle. I will most likely shoot 130-140gr bullets and just keep my 123's for my grendel
I would start at 40gr, and probably end up around 45gr as far as RL17 and 140s go.

Varget works really well 120 thru 140gr. Around 39grs Varget with 130's and 38grs with 140's. It's a little slower than H4350 & R17; however, the accuracy makes up for it.
In my 6.5 x 47 loves Power Pro 2000MR; gets about 150fps higher velocity than other powders and is very accurate. This seems to be the trend for a number of calibers!
I have had success with IMR 4350, h4350 and rl-17, with 123's and 140's.
The most accurate loads are with rl-17 44.2gr with both weight classes. I'm actually liking the 123 SMK an amax a lot.
Sierra makes a 107gr HPBT Match King that has a good BC, and being only 107gr you can get some decent Velocity, that and Lapua makes a 108gr with a full case of RL17, was getting over 3300FPS and when I AI it well over 3500FPS.

Im using win 243 cases 140 nosler cc and imr4350. Shoots tiny groups at 100 yards and made hits on 12" steel past 1200.
One load that I know works well is 123gr A-max, 38.3gr IMR4064, in Winchester 260 brass.
My best load is IMR4064 @ 36.0 gr with 140 gr Berger. On a good day I can get 1" at 300 yds doing 2675 fps. anything over 2800 fps and primers are Flat.
I was interested to hear what Charlie NC has to say about his having used PP2000mr in his 6.5x47l. I have been using this powder a lot in my .308. I have had really good results with about 45 grains under a 168 hpbt. It burns really well and seems to be more readily available. I am thinking of moving to a 6.5x47 to shoot F class. I have been unable to find any start data for the 6.5x47. I can probably extrapolate off some other powders, but would really like some start values if some one cares to share.
The OP(me) doesn't have h4350! It is like Varget(I have) and cfe223 in my area. I have Varget, i4350 and RL 17, I know h4350 is the equivalent of a unicorn fart for .260! I can't seem to acquire any any want to work up a load for a new barrel. I have loaded some 142smk's over 38gr of varget and expect accuracy but not a lot of speed. From this little info I have gathered it seems RL 17 might give me equal accuracy w/ more speed before pressure than h4350.
IMR 4350, 43grns, 140grn pills, cci br2 primers, Rem cases, is my favorite load for my 260 Rem.
Grendelguy: I've done a bit of loading for two different 260's. I've had pretty good luck with H-4831sc & RL-19. Unlike many others, I have yet to try any H4350, which seems pretty popular.
Sorry I missed your questions earlier. I use 41.5 PP200MR, CCI, with 123 Scenars for 3050fps. Since no data was available I worked up to 43.0gr without any signs of high pressure, and the node was at 41.5 in my 26" barrel. With ideal conditions (no mirage, gentle wind) 3-shot groups were approx 3" at 1000 & 1100 yards; I was pleased but shocked as well! Banged the steel easily at 1200 yards. Next target was at a mile, and I would have tried that but ran out of turret and reticle to even try. Hope I will be able to repeat that performance again, but not holding my breath. Sometimes it all just comes together and that was one of those days.
Working up a hunting load with 140 Berger Hunting VLD. The great thing about the 6.5 x 47 is the OAL is a bit shorter than the 308 so there is no problem running close to the lands if you want, and keep the mag.
A little off topic. But am getting a 260 barrel from a forum member and am wondering if a long action would be best? Seems like having it reamed AI and using a long action would put this barrel in a whole new league.
Nothing wrong with going that route if you want to. But I have a load that is 2.945" COAL and it still feeds through a short, center feed, action magazine. Never the less, I prefer to have the single shot ramp installed and shoot my 260Rem one at a time. "One shot, one hit" :-))
Good Luck, which ever way you go, and we would like to here how it turns out.......Jim
The nice thing about a LA is you can run almost any cartridge and can always reach the lands on the SA cartridges. I have a .260 and my wife has a lefty .243 both on LA. The .243 gets pulled from the Choate stock and set back into its factory 116 stock with its 7rm barrel and is ready for Elk season. Switch takes under an hour. ;)
If your going to ream I would seriously look at the .260 SLR. all the advantages of AI with none of the drawbacks IMO. Good luck.
Well I finally got around to shooting a group with my Apache Arms barrel and I am more than pleased. I managed to put 4 under .75"@200yds and blew it with the 5th round( ended up 1.25"). This was mild load of 38.0 gr of Varget under a 142 smk. I will be pleased if RL 17 can produce comparable accuracy. I will beore than happy to email the pic to someone if they would post on this thread for me.
