Post up pics of your Savage's in tacticool stocks.
Ive scoured that entire thread and didn't see any rifles with Boyd's Tacticool stocks. Anybody have any pics they want to share? I'm specifically looking for the a model 10 (preferably tactical model) mounted in a Boyd's tacticool stock.
I went ahead and ordered the tacticool for my gun but it'll be a couple weeks before it's here. I'll probably start a new thread on my rifle when the stock and other stuff gets here. I'll be doing a budget precision build and documents the parts and steps I take along the way.
Long action 260 in a tacticool. Had to open up the barrel channel to get the varmint barrel in there. The stock feels great and was well worth the money.

That looks great! I have a couple questions if you don't mind. What did you use for the barrel inletting? If you used a dowel and sandpaper, what size dowel?
I like your camo job as well, is that a sponge job?
One inch dowel wrapped with sandpaper. It is definitely more of a sporter barrel inlet. Yes, sponge camo. First sponge job I have done and like it. Usually, I paint and tape everything.
I've got one on order for a 308 I'm assembling. Ill post pics once its together.
Nice paint btw
Mine will be here this afternoon! Hopefully I will get the bedding job done tonight and have some pictures of it!
My 30.06 Stevens, best $113.00 I ever spenthttp://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j461/2234me/011.jpghttp://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j461/2234me/007.jpg
That looks great, thanks for posting.
Your quite welcome Tom, and good luck on your build. After a bedding job this stock is every bit as stiff and comfy as other stocks I've paid four times as much for.

My MKII FV-SR with its new Stock
That's a mighty fine looking rifle. Did you get the unfinished version from midway and finish it yourself?
Here is my nutmeg brown laminate I got in for my savage 111 Trophy Hunter XP in 25-06. I just threw it together to get an idea.
Warning photobomb to begin...

Really like the brown laminate look.
That does look sharp, I have a black olive and love it. I'll get some pics up when the gun is back in one piece.
For some of the people asking. I guess I have an older 111? The serial started with an H if that means anything. I was able to remove the plastic trigger guard and the plastic bottom metal and just put it in/ on the new laminate stock. Like I said this is just mocked up to see what needs/needed to be done. I am worried that the action screws from the plastic stock might be too short. They barely protrude from the stock on the inside. Boyd's website didnt say anything about needing the longer screws but I might order them to be on the safe side. I am looking into pillar bedding it. I am also going to call savage and see if I can get the trigger guard at least in metal as I kinda broke that plastic one everything fit and I cycled a few rounds flawlessly.

Looks like a pretty good fit. Thanks for posting, I'm gonna check my action screws when mine comes in to make sure they are long enough.
I like the brown laminate as well.
I think I am going to go all black on this one for a kind of "classic" look.
Thanks for the pics.
if you have a DBM your screws are long enough. What I need to figure out is there enough wood for an Anshuntz rail!!
Oh come on, stop it already with those gorgeous rifles You're all gonna make me take that new 30-06 Stevens 200 I got extra, re-barrel in 6.5 Swede, Tacticool and stick way to expensive a glass on it:rofl:
I'm got my hands covering my eyes. I'm not gonna click on it, nope, no way..... Where's the black olive!:p
Barrel should be here late next week. I'm going to wait until I get it back together and I'll get out and get some pictures worthy of it....
That sounds good. I won't ask questions now, I'll wait for the thread:p
I'm not sure how you mount an Anshuntz rail but it looks like it might be kind of difficult. I took a pic of the inside of the fore arm on the stock I just got in. Up front you can see the two screws for the sling studs protruding through and then the cut out goes back several inches. I didn't measure the thickness of the wood in the cut out but I'd estimate it to be about .5". Here's a pic, hope it helps ya out.

Heres another pic of the stock awaiting the barrel channel to be sanded so I can drop my action. I should have it done tomorrow with my optics mounted and muzzle break installed.

ok, heres the mock up on my 308 I'm assembling. it's built off an old 110 LA staggerfeed model. I plan to bed it yet but heres what she'll look like!

I'll get some pictures of the bedding job, I wasn't thrilled about it but it will work. Pillar installation in the Tacticool is a challenge since it is real thin in spots and the sear on the back one.
On the rail I am worried about the same issue with not enough meat there. I had though about carving it out and then putting some cross pins in and jb weld the pins and rail together. I gotta do a lot of measuring and thinking though.
I may have missed the answer to this but where did you guys get the nutmeg laminate and black olive laminate finished stocks? From what I have found, Boyds website only lists the finish as textured black.
Well just ordered a tacticool for my model 11. Can't wait to the brown truck shows up.
Truck showed up today. Stock fits great. Cant wait to get to the range.
Here is my first Savage older 112 FV.223 shoots great, now I need to start reloading
Question. I put a tacticool on my 11. Did anyone one find that the rear action screw is almost to short. It fits but seems to only grab a few turns.
I think Boyds sells a longer screw, since I pillar bedded mines I made my own length screws, the screw is 1/4-28 thread pitch
Thanks sa

Those are some great looking rifles. Sadly I won't get to use my Tacticool. I got the stock first and ended up getting a different rifle so I guess I'll be getting rid of the stock now.

Jpdown... How do you like the Fred sled. I have been looking at them for awhile now. Just been wondering if they work like advertised. I single load just about always.
Thanks,
