Finaly got that Stith mount,a 3/4",with a 29s weaver.I noticed the eye relief may be a bit short by modern standards.Did they just mount them as far out as possible,about 3
inches?

Won't the mount restrict the position of the scope?
Might use a Weaver J 2.5 (also 3/4" tube) which has more eye relief -- though with the adjustment turrets make it look rather modern.
I've only used a Stith mount (on a bolt action) with a Lyman scope, which had quite a bit of eye relief. My old Savage 99 had been previously drilled & tapped, so I put an older B&L on it.
