JHC Gmac you must own a reamer company!
And a die company too.
They are cheaper by the dozen, some were passed down some financed ( really in early, early days my fee for fitting a barrel was the reamer.i think I have almost 100 now GOD I FEEL OLD

A 416 Whisper recently.
Only two current Savages, both dedicated hunting rifles. no swapping after the first one.

Looking to get a 6 x06 ackley in the next year or so.

Baryngl, only if u r worthy, yes i do i do have 6/06ackley 40 degree
It 6-06 burns barrels but i was thinking a redux with a 8 twist
Gary
WOW I have to admit, I was not expecting this can of worms, quiet they eclectic collection we have here of characters and calibers ;D
Only Savage rebarrels I have done are what someone would consider "normal" (6.5x55, .308)
But, I did rebarrel my AR15 in 6mm-.223
I happen to have a 6mm-06 Improved. It is probably the wierdest but also have 22-250 AI and 6mm AI, both with 1 in 8 twists.
So how do you get your Savage to handle the rimmed rounds (219 zip, 45-70, etc.?) Would love to see pics of that!Quote:

That just sounds like to much fun shooting steel at medium range!

Rimmed cases are a bit tricky to feed but not as bad as u would think.that is, once i started using the lee enfield follower,or one made near its specs.
On the 30/30s now i use 30 rem brass its one of the most easy to make accurate and most forgiving.
The 45acp is single stack 1911 mag fitted into a single shot stock cut tight enough for the mag and modified orig 1922 mag release ( kind of )
22 BR
35 Whelen
6.5 x 55
22-250 AI
With all the odd calibers that have been listed here, the two I posted almost seem everyday run of the mill.

Damn, the only thing I've done lately is a 22-6mm 1 in 8.
uj
I rebarreled one in 22-250AI which is a lazer,number2 was a .260 rem, shoots very good, number 3 is a cylinder barrel in .308, number4 is 7.62x39 which is very accurate and number 5 is a .223 1in8 criterion.I prefer the mcgowens over everything else as I have had greater accuracy with their prefits.
Take a pic of your 7.62x54R boltface and extractor please!Quote:

Not sure if it's odd, but we did a 6mm SLR a few weeks back. Works very nice
375-06 imp from PacNor with a 8 twist for subsonic. 350 gr. Clearwater is great for deer. But it loves 220 gr Hornady run fast. 300 blk that was a pain in the foot until I contacted Fred and got his ejector. Anybody in for an Edge 338, 30" bull group buy???
I have a 30" 338 edge with a muzzle break on the way and it is costing me a kings ransom, I hope it's worth it, I now know why they call it a poor mans Lapua, it has done exactly that turn me into a poor man, and the barrel is the least of my problems,
1 brass OUCH
2 dies OUCH OUCH
3 powder 100+ grains a whack OUCH OUCH OUCH
4 bullets 50 per box that cost more than 100 count other calibers OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH
I could go on

I dont know how to post pictures or even have a digital cam,but im getting some help from a shooting buddy (i hope soon ) to post pictures of the axis stocks i make and the 45acp conversion ..
Back to the barrel and bolt face,i have tried many ways considering the rim is larger than the bolt
1 Easiest was to cut the brass to a rebated rim work intensive but most rewardin
2 method includes many wasted bolts and only so so results .it includes turning bolt face milling llug of bolt milling rear of barrel for the remaining r lug housing the extractor.
Clearly many ruined bolts trying to use existing nonmodified cases
I do enjoy challenges and as u can see have much time to try those I WONDER IF THAT WILL WORK

Thanks but it will be here in a couple of weeks,
and the waiting has been even more painful
than the expenditures.
One of my 110s (pre-1959) usually sports a Douglas varmint 25-06...But this one shed the stainless barrel the other day and put on its small headed bolt and a Shaw .221 fireball barrel....Now a LA with a itsy-bitsy .221 might be considered a little odd...But boy does it like to shoot small groups ;D
Randy
Building a 270 wby now. Not odd but not common as a 270win it isn't.
Gene
I guess my most unusual was/is my .270/08 AI. I never could get it to shoot like it should have and it turned out that the concentricity of the barrel was out to lunch. Now it is a fire form only barrel.

6.5x257 Roberts Ackley Improved. love it

I guess my .416 Taylor Striker and .270 STW Rifle would be the oddest I have.
30 BR
458 WM
243 AI
223 WSSM (kind weird for a Savage ::))
22 K-Hornet
and hopefully coming in the not too distant future
6mm International
All the calibers mentioned are pretty interesting, but until I read this I didn't come up with any hair-brained schemes. My hunting buddies thought I was goofy for building an "oddball" like a 257 Roberts. Wait till they hear the next barrel I have on order.Quote:
