twist for mod 12 BVSS(pic added)
i bought a used model 12 BVSS in .243 recently. not sure the date of manufacter but the savage web site dont show this gun in this calliber.
could anyone tell me the twist rate for this barrel? its a stagger feed if this helps.
ive loaded 100g sgk and 95g nbt with average accuracy. I was thinking of trying a lighter bullet but would like the twist before I go buying every bullet on the market.
Thanks

Re: twist for mod 12 BVSS
my sons axis is a 1 in 9.25 and it shoots the same bullet like a lazer. i thought i might have a slower twist.
Re: twist for mod 12 BVSS
Measure the twist and know for sure.
Re: twist for mod 12 BVSS
I got to be honest...I have know idea how to measure it.
Re: twist for mod 12 BVSS
You can measure it with a cleaning rod and a patch jag.
Get a really tight patch to run down the barrel and see how many inches it takes for the rod to spin once in it's handle while you push it through the barrel.
I use a marker to put a line on the rod so I can see one revolution easily and then it's just a matter of seeing how far the rod travels to get one revolution.
Re: twist for mod 12 BVSS
If you have a one piece cleaning rod, a jag, a Sharpie, a patch, and a tape measure you can measure the twist.
You may even get by with a segmented cleaning rod.
If you have that stuff here's how you do it.
Take your rod with the jag attached (make sure the jag is screwed tightly into the rod) and put a tight fitting patch around it. Put it patched jag into the barrel from the muzzle. Push it in a few inches and using the Sharpie make a mark around the rod right at the muzzle. Make another mark near the top of the rod but just make a dot. You'll use this dot to determine when your rod has made one complete 360 degree revolution. Watching that dot push the rod further into the barrel until the dot makes that one revolution. When it makes that one revolution stop and make another mark at the muzzle.
Pull out the rod and measure the distance between the first muzzle mark and the second muzzle mark. That measurement is your twist. If in fact you have 1-9.25" twist the measurement between the marks will be 9 and 1/4".
