300 win mag for accuracy?
Headspace off of the belt, or the shoulder? How, why?
Which stock for an internal mag?
26" 1:10 barrel, or other?
Looking for .5 to 1 moa out to 800 yards.
I've built a few Savages with excellent results, how does the belt fit into headspacing the barrel?
Can an accurate 300 win mag be built in the same manner as .243, or a 308 etc?
Thanks, Matt.
Re: 300 win mag for accuracy?
For headspacing you want to hold the belt less than .002. The standard for the case face to the back of the belt is .220. So a clearnce of .002 is the maximum, or .220 +.002/-.000. Case life is shortened if you don't follow this rule.
Once you have fired your amunition either neck size only or full length size to where you only bump the shoulder back a maximum of .002 for best accuracy. In effect once you have the belt headspaced, from that point on you treat it just like any other case.

Thanks for the good reply.
Re: 300 win mag for accuracy?
I got the Criterion 300WM barrel in varmint contour, 26" 1-10. It shoots .5-.75 MOA depending on loads and of course, my meager ability. I headspaced as above as well and only neck size my cases. Love the rifle!

Thanks Jetpig- glad to hear its working well for you. Have you shot 200 or heavier bullets through? How far have you been able to shoot it?
