I have a stock that is parallel between the forearm and the bottom of the rear stock. I have an aluminum plate attached to the forearm that lays in the "flat" front bag. I just ordered a Protector Custom Bumble Bee Dr Bag with a "flat top" and built in handle so the my stock will slide straight back. Am I getting the right one that I can use for both bench rest & F-class?

You want a bag that will fit your stock, what is a "flat top?" Is this a bag with no ears?
Glad you asked because I didn't know either until I read someone else's post on another forum that he had one made. My stock on the bottom is parallel to the bottom of the forearm so I'm having the top of the bag between the rabbit ears be flat not tilting down (like most are) so when the rifle recoils it goes straight back not back and down like a hunting stock would because it is not parallel. Hope this is a good explanation?Quote:

PS: Note that they will extend the bottom to cut a carry handle for an extra $10.00(?). They are also filling it with "heavy" sand for me also. When finished it will look similar to this one. http://www.sinclairintl.com/.aspx/pi...ndle___Leather
Most Benchrest stocks are fairly flat on the bottom, or parallel. I don't know why anyone would want a bag that has a slant to it. ("Or tilting down.") I would say your going the right route by getting a standard bag. (One that is flat.)
There are a few other things to think about as far as a bag goes. One of them is type of ears. They have Rabbit ears which are the longest, they have bunny ears which are the shortest and they have midsize ears which is something in-between. Most BR shooters prefer a shorter ear as they feel that it will disturb the rifle less.
Next is material of the ears, they offer both leather and cordura. Cordura is slicker than leather, but it has its downsides it can hold in material and scratch the finish on your stock. They also don't last as long as leather. I prefer leather, and I use carnuba wax, or baby powder with corn starch, and my rifles glide in the leather. There is one other choice, and that is Dave Dormans Ulta fabric bags. Dave passed on (God rest his soul.) a year or two ago, but there is a guy that is carring his products.

Last is the amount of stitching between the ears, and how far the ears are apart. With the factory Savage "F" class stocks they made the bottom of the stock way too wide, and Protector makes a special bag for them. A lot of BR shooters like a triple stitch in-between so that the ears are wider, and the bottom of the rifle rides lower in the bag.
Me personally, I like the cheap old leather single stitch 13 bag the best. I tried the DR bags from Protector, and they work fine, I still use one on my light long range gun. After reading Mike Ratigans book , I found that he likes the old leather 13 bag with a donut under it. I tried it and all I can say is "He is right," it is the cats meow. It is a great book to read.

I'll add some pictures of my whole setup when I get it.
The DR Bag will have the Cordura Medium ears. I have also used "BOUNCE FABRIC SOFTENER" sheets that you put in your cloths drier. I rub a sheet of it on the front & rear bags and the forearm + rear stock. I think the "BOUNCE" is much slicker then the things you use including the silicone that some other guys use.
